Aspiring Conductors Competition

The Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce its second annual Aspiring Conductors Competition. The competition is open to all musicians between the ages of 14 and 18 years old who reside in Utah County.The Conducting Competition will take place on Thursday, April 24th at a TSO rehearsal at the Highland Community Center. The competition will consist of each contestant rehearsing the selected piece with the orchestra.Contestants will be adjudicated by the orchestra and the Music Director. Competition Guidelines
The application deadline for the TSO Aspiring Conductors Competition is April 24th with a $25 application fee. The application and fees must be submitted electronically by filling out the form here.

Conducting Competition
The conducting competition will be based on a composition determined by the competition committee. All contestants will conduct the same piece at a TSO rehearsal. The winner of the competition will conduct this same piece at the TSO performances on May 9th and/or 10th. The piece selected for the 2014 competition is Scene (Act II, No. 10) from Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky. The score can be found by clicking here.

The winner of the competition must be available for selected Thursday rehearsals in April and May, the dress rehearsal on May 8th, and both performances on May 9th and 10th.The contestants’ age as of May 9, 2014 must be between 14 and 18.

Please note that past winners of the TSO Aspiring Conductors Competition are ineligible for participation.
